In our first Bioinformatics Workshop I on May 6th, we discussed and worked through a pipeline from raw data to an OTU table using Galaxy (lead by Kevin Groen). This involved practical tips on bespoke settings, best practices and data wrangling. This first workshop also ended with a lively Q&A and philosophical discussions about the tradeoffs between OTUs and ASVs.
In our second instalment, our Bioinformatics Workshop II (lead by Emilie Didaskalou and Martin van der Plas) will look at using QIIME2 and DADA2 via command-line-interface to generate ASVs and how to "clean" your ASV table before analysing your data. Again, this workshop will entail a presentation and opportunities for specific questions about your own data, or just general insights into what, when and how to best perform bioinformatic analyses.
Interested? Bioinformatics Workshop II will take place on June 3rd from 3:30-5pm in Van Steenis Room A303. Can't make it in person? We will also offer hybrid participation online and, similar to Bioinformatics Workshop I, we will record the presentation and discussion. These recording can be useful if you can't make this time-slot but are still interested in honing your bioinformatics skills, or if you want to save the instructions and workflows for data analysis later on.
All e3DNA members are welcome to attend. Not a member yet? No problem - just send us an email at e3DNA@cml.leidenuniv.nl and we'll add your name. It's as easy as that!
See you on June 3rd for another lively discussion and knowledge-building.
